Hurry Up and Wait

Thursday, April 14th, 2005

On a typical Thursday, I’d be in lab right now. But I’ve been excused from the lab by the professor as right now I’m supposed to be helping prep the Vineyard bridge site for installation of the sonnotubes that will be used as the legs for the bridge. Yet here I am, posting online. Colin, who’s in charge of the plans for the legs, is currently running around NW Indiana getting the drawings approved and stamped. So until that happens, it’s back to hurry up and wait.

In other news, all you can eat wings night at Hooters is a good thing. Tony, Andrew, Derek, Colin and myself made our way to the Merriville Hooters last night to partake in the festivities. After getting there around 8:45 to find the place packed, we were told that it would be ~45 minutes until we could get a table. So what other option was there than to go to BestBuy. After returning after half a hour, we learned that we had already been called (which is what I called as we were leaving for BestBuy). But in short order we were called again, so all was well. 23 is really by no means old, but I have to say, I feel older and older every day. I find myself slowly drifting out of the hip cool youth demographic, which was hit home by the fact that I’m now older than a lot of the Hooters girls.

Construction Personnel Only

My automatic response to the “What’s your favorite season” question is fall, but I must say, these past few spring days have been wonderful. High 60′s and low 70′s and sunny just makes everything more pleasant. Except being in class. But the ever changing Midwest weather will fix that shortly, with rain pending in the next few days.

Work on the bridge has started again with a whimper. I managed to screw up my back at a friends house party in Chicago this past Saturday (side note: having 2 friends that can spin some mean vinyl makes for a wonderful party), so I was out of commission for doing any actual work come the work day on Sunday. The guy in charge of the campus site was the only person there for the majority of the day; he was only joined by one other person late in the day. Not a good sign for a project we need to finish in the next 5 weeks, especially when its only half of the project. The other half involves replacing the bridge we removed last year in the next 5 weeks as well, from foundations to placement to stairs.

The warm weather has also inspiried me to start futzing with my car once again. Finally ordered an RF remote to replace the IR remote I’ve been using for a few years now. Also started running a new fused 12vdc line from the battery to in the dash for distribution to a few low amp applications in the dash. The remote is supposed to show up Friday, so I might even have my intereior stitched back together by the end of the weekend, as I’ve been driving around with half my dash torn apart since the heatercore incident.
